JACKSON TO 'HIT' R&R CONVENTION 2006

Randy Jackson, host of West-wood One’s Randy Jackson’s Hit List, will moderate the “Rate-a-Record” lunch sponsored by Yahoo! Music at R&R Convention 2006.
The “Rate-a-Record” portion of the lunch will feature special panelists who will rate songs that Yahoo! Music has arranged for consumers to rate as well. Votes from the industry and the public will be compared at the session.

The “Rate-a-Record” lunch will take place on Sept. 21 at noon. Rate-a-Record is a service mark of dick clark productions.

Additionally, Cumulus Media Exec. VP John Dickey will join the “Talking Heads of Programming” session that kicks off the convention on Sept. 20 at 9am.

R&R Convention 2006 is being held side-by-side with the NAB Radio Show, Sept. 20-22 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG ADDED TO R&R CONVENTION '06 LINEUP
‘Talking Heads of Programming’ also planned

Recently signed Clear Channel Radio personality Whoopi Goldberg has joined the lineup of R&R Convention 2006. “Inside the Radio Studio With Whoopi Goldberg” will be a one-on-one interview of the famous actress, comedian and producer by Clear Channel VP/AC Programming and WLTW/New York PD Jim Ryan.

Goldberg’s new radio show, Wake Up With Whoopi, launches on July 31 and is syndicated through Premiere Radio Networks. The panel will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 3:30-5pm.

The R&R Convention will kick off on Wednesday, Sept. 20, with a general session titled “The Talking Heads of Programming: Not the Same as It Ever Was.” Panelists include CBS Radio President/Programming Rob Barnett, Entercom Sr. VP/Programming Pat Paxton, Emmis VP/Programming Jimmy Steal and Journal Exec. VP/Television & Radio Operations Carl Gardner. The session will be on Sept. 20, from 9-10am.

R&R Convention 2006 will take place at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas and will be held at the same time as the NAB Radio Show, Sept. 20-22. Both conventions will be at the Anatole, and registration for the R&R Convention will include access to the NAB sessions.

FREAKONOMICS AUTHORS TO KEYNOTE R&R CONVENTION
Jacobs Media Summit 11 set for Dallas meeting

R&R Convention 2006 will feature best-selling authors Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner in a keynote session on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 9-10am at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.

Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything has been on the Wall Street Journal Business Books Bestselling List for more than 51 weeks and the New York Times Best-seller List for 50 weeks.

Freakonomics came out of a profile that Dubner wrote for the New York Times Magazine about Levitt, a much-heralded young scholar who studies the riddles of everyday life — from cheating and crime to sports and child-rearing — and whose conclusions regularly turn conventional wisdom on its head. The article and Levitt’s ideas were such a hit that Levitt and Dubner were offered a book deal.

In addition, the Jacobs Media Summit 11 will be held in advance of the R&R Convention and is set for Sept. 19 from 1-5pm and Sept. 20 from 10:15am-12:30pm. The mission of the Summit is to bring the radio community together to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the business.

“We believe that broadcasters are hungry to be exposed to the best thinkers, inside and outside of radio,” Jacobs Media President Fred Jacobs said. “While our agenda is still coming together, attendees can be assured we will once again provide them with a compelling event where they can bring actionable ideas back to their stations. If there’s one convention for everyone from radio to attend, it’s this one.”

The R&R Convention will be held at the same time as the NAB Convention, Sept. 20-22, at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. Registration for the R&R Convention will include access to the NAB sessions.
