Scarborough Joins TRS 2005 Lineup
L.A. hosts annual News/Talk radio gathering
Westwood One radio host and MSNBC television personality Joe Scarborough has joined the lineup of special guest speakers for the upcoming 10th annual R&R Talk Radio Seminar. Scarborough will speak to TRS 2005 attendees during an exclusive general session on Friday, March 11.
Scarborough -- who recently launched his Westwood One radio show (Monday-Friday, 10am-1pm ET) -- became the first Republican to be sent to Congress by his Florida district in over a century when he was elected to his first term in the House of Representatives in a landslide victory in 1994. After seven years in Congress, he retired from politics in 2001 to spend more time with his family and to launch his nightly MSNBC show, Scarborough Country.
Scarborough also authored the best-selling Rome Wasn't Burnt in a Day, in which he skewers Republicans and Democrats alike over the reckless spending and back-door deals that cost Americans millions every year.
"We're extremely pleased that Joe Scarborough will bring his wit and wisdom to TRS 2005," R&R News/Talk/Sports Editor Al Peterson said. "From the power brokers of the White House and Congress to the sharks of Wall Street and the average Joes of Main Street, Joe Scarborough has met them all.
"TRS 2005 attendees can expect to hear the kind of stories, insights and perspectives on today's hot issues that only a real insider like Joe can offer. He's a terrific addition to this year's program."
The 10th annual R&R Talk Radio Seminar takes place March 10-12 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel in Los Angeles. For the complete agenda, hotel information and online registration, visit www.radioandrecords.com.

TRS ’05 Roundtable To Explore
‘The Other Side Of Talk Radio’

Four panelists to discuss Talk topics beyond politics

A quartet of nationally syndicated talk hosts will kick off the upcoming 10th annual R&R Talk Radio Seminar at a very special session titled “The Other Side of Talk Radio” on Thursday, March 10.

On the dais for this year’s annual TRS Roundtable will be Premiere Radio Networks’ Phil Hendrie, Talk Radio Network syndicated personality and WKQX/Chicago morning host Erich “Mancow” Muller, Westwood One’s Tom Leykis, and Twisted Radio creator and KZOK/Seattle host Bob Rivers. Veteran broadcast personality and Talentmasters President Don Anthony will moderate the panel.

“Over the years our annual TRS Roundtable has become a must-attend event for Talk radio executives and programmers from around the country, and I can assure you this year’s session will be no exception,” said R&R News/Talk/Sports Editor Al Peterson.

“Many of America’s most successful talk shows post huge ratings and produce substantial revenues for stations without even a hint of politics as part of their daily dialogue. So we’ve assembled a dais of four of radio’s best and most entertaining hosts to demonstrate and discuss why talk that goes beyond politics and beyond topics like the war in Iraq must be an essential component in any successful Talk radio station’s future. Get there early for a good seat, because I guarantee you this one’s going to be a standing-room-only, side-splitting event!”

The 10th annual R&R Talk Radio Seminar takes place March 10-12 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel near Los Angeles. Franken Signs On For TRS 2005
Air America Radio host will speak to general session
Air America Radio host Al Franken has joined the lineup for the 10th annual R&R Talk Radio Seminar. An award-winning writer and comedian, Franken will speak to TRS 2005 attendees during a special Saturday-morning general session on March 12.
A relative newcomer to Talk radio, Franken is best-known for his years as one of the original writers and performers on the groundbreaking TV show Saturday Night Live. The author of five New York Times best-selling books, Franken launched his daily Air America Radio program in March 2004. Since then he’s become a leading figure in the evolution of progressive Talk, lending his liberal voice to the generally conservative world of Talk radio.

“For nearly three decades Al Franken has poked and prodded all of us through his pointed writings and performances,” said R&R News/Talk/Sports Editor Al Peterson. “From his earliest work on SNL to his memorable characterization of new-age cable TV host Stuart Smalley to his new role as host of his own daily radio show, Al Franken has definitely left his mark on American pop culture. Whether you lean to the left or the right, this is sure to be one very entertaining session.”

Hannity Joins TRS 2005 Lineup
ABC-syndicated talker to host newsmaker luncheon
ABC Radio Networks’ nationally syndicated talk host Sean Hannity has joined the lineup for the upcoming 10th annual R&R Talk Radio Seminar, to be held March 10-12 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel in Los Angeles. Hannity will be the host and moderator at this year’s TRS Friday Newsmaker luncheon, where he’ll go one-on-one on March 11 with a very special guest to be announced.

Along with hosting his daily WABC/New York-based national radio program, Hannity serves as co-host of Fox News Channel’s nightly Hannity & Colmes. With his provocative style and passionate opinions, Hannity has become one of America’s rising stars of Talk since the debut of his ABC Radio Networks program in 2001.

The list of prominent figures who have appeared on Hannity’s radio show reads like a who’s who of American politics; it includes President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Steve Forbes and many more.

“Our Friday Newsmaker luncheon has become a one-of-a-kind event for attendees of the R&R Talk Radio Seminar,” said R&R News/Talk/Sports Editor Al Peterson. “Having Sean Hannity as host of this year’s special event is a really terrific addition to help us celebrate our 10th annual TRS. Sean will continue a TRS tradition of giving attendees a unique opportunity to witness a special up-close and personal dialogue with some of America’s most fascinating personalities. This is an event you won’t want to miss.”

R&R To Honor Michaels At TRS
Luncheon set for Talk Radio Seminar in March
One of broadcasting’s most colorful and controversial figures, Randy Michaels, has been named the recipient of the 2005 R&R News/Talk Lifetime Achievement Award. Michaels will be honored at a luncheon during the upcoming R&R Talk Radio Seminar in Los Angeles. He’ll also address TRS 2005 attendees at what will be the first public appearance by the legendary broadcaster in several years.

Currently President of his recently formed company, RadioActive, and formerly CEO of Clear Channel Radio, Michaels has spent more than 35 years in radio, rising from the control room to the boardroom while leaving his indelible mark on hundreds of radio stations across the country. As a host, programmer, owner and corporate executive, Michaels was largely responsible for creating the sound of modern News/Talk radio by implementing his formula of blending high-profile personalities with news and service dominance, professional sports affiliations and a rock ‘n’ roll attitude that’s become standard at today’s most successful News/Talkers.

“R&R’s News/Talk Lifetime Achievement Award was created to honor and acknowledge those who’ve made significant and lasting contributions to the format,” said R&R News/Talk/Sports Editor Al Peterson. “By that definition Randy Michaels is definitely deserving of this prestigious award. We’re truly pleased he’s accepted our invitation to join us at TRS 2005.”

The 10th annual R&R Talk Radio Seminar will be held March 10-12, 2005 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel in Los Angeles.
