ANNUAL ROUNDTABLE:
THE TALKING HEADS OF TALK RADIO

Erica Farber Mike Stern

The unprecedented interest in the 2008 presidential election is making the event the news/talk equivalent of the Super Bowl, a rare experience that the entire country will share. What that means for our stations is just one of the issues that will be addressed at our annual round table. Setting the tone for the entire seminar, a group of the format's most influential people will go on record sharing their views on the current state of spoken-word formats and what they believe the future has in store. This session provides a chance to enjoy the benefit of the national perspective and stream of information to which these industry leaders are privy.

As the economy surpasses Iraq as the No. 1 concern on the minds of Americans, Ric Edelman, one of the nation’s most acclaimed financial advisors providing expert financial advice on the radio, in print and online, comes to speak at the Talk Radio Seminar.

Committed to teaching consumers about personal finance, Edelman has been heard across the country on ABC Radio Networks for 15 years; has written six books that have topped the New York Times bestseller list; writes the nationally syndicated column "The Truth About Money" for United Media; and has assembled RicEdelman.com, a comprehensive free online resource for consumers.

Ranked repeatedly by Barron's magazine as one of America's 100 top financial advisors, Edelman has been inducted into the Financial Advisor Hall of Fame. He has also won the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Washington, D.C., by Ernst and Young and the Blue Chip Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and his organization was named the fastest-growing privately held financial planning firm in the country three times by Ink magazine.

Edelman also understands the importance of community. He served five years on the board of the United Way of the National Capital Area, including a two-year term as chairman of the board. He serves as a national trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is a full partner of the American Savings Education Council and the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and is a former board member of Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area.

TURNING THE TABLES, THE REVERSE DEBATE

George
Stephanopoulos

Talk talents excel at criticizing politicians' every move. Every statement is dissected down to the minutiae of tone and inflection. At this "reverse" debate, which follows the format of the presidential debates, we'll see how these talents stand up to the same test the politicians take every day. Some of today's most popular and successful talents will be on stage debating the biggest topics and issues facing America. Moderated by ABC's George Stephanopoulos, this session will show who stands up best under the pressure.

Bob Schieffer

GENERAL SESSION
Featured Speaker: Bob Schieffer, CBS News
Bob Schieffer brings unmatched election-year experience to TRS. He has covered Washington for CBS News for more than 30 years and is one of the few broadcast or print journalists to have covered all four major beats in the nation's capital -- the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and Capitol Hill.

He has been chief Washington correspondent since 1982, Congressional correspondent since 1989 and has covered every presidential campaign and been a floor reporter at all of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions since 1972. He began anchoring "Face the Nation" in May 1991.

Schieffer is a member of the Broadcasting/Cable Hall of Fame and is the recipient of the 2003 Paul White Award, presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association and recognizes an individual's lifetime contribution to electronic journalism. He has won many other broadcast journalism awards, including six Emmy Awards and two Sigma Delta Chi Awards. Schieffer is the 2004 recipient of the International Radio and Television Society Foundation Award and the American News Women’s Club Helen Thomas Award for Excellence in Journalism. In 2002, the National Press Foundation chose him as Broadcaster of the Year.

He has been a principal anchor for CBS News since 1973, when he was named anchor of "The CBS Sunday Night News." In August 1996, Schieffer stepped down as anchor of the Saturday edition of "The CBS Evening News," a post he held for 20 years. He and his colleague Dan Rather stand as the only two 20-year anchors of a regularly scheduled network news broadcast.

He is the author of "Face the Nation: My Favorite Stories from the First 50 Years of the Award-winning News Broadcast," as well as the 2003 The New York Times bestseller "This Just In: What I Couldn’t Tell You on TV" and "Acting President," published in 1989.

Small businesses have always known that the best possible marketing is when consumers spread the word about your product. Today there are more entertainment choices than ever, and consumers face an unfathomable number of advertising messages every day. The most effective way for your station to cut through the din is to get people talking about you. Best of all, it costs almost nothing.
