The Canadian Radio-television and
Telecommunications Commissions gave the thumbs-up
to five proposals for new radio stations in Alberta,
four in Calgary and three of which were conditional.
Harvard Broadcasting got the OK for a new Alternative
station at 92.9 FM in Calgary, and Rawlco was approved
for a Folk/Acoustic specialty station at 100.3 FM,
also in Calgary. Newcap was granted a partial approval;
it had proposed a Triple A station at 92.9 in Calgary
but was given the OK to put its station on at 90.3
FM. Also getting a conditional approval was CHUM,
which proposed a Hot AC station at 90.3 FM in Calgary
and was granted the format but needs to resubmit
its application for another frequency. Meanwhile,
Tiessen Media received half-approval: The company
asked to be able to put an Eclectic AC station on
two signals -- at 106.1 in Airdrie and 99.1 in Cochrane;
the Airdrie stick was approved, the Cochrane was
not, and Tiessen must resubmit with another frequency
in mind.
