Obama Considering FCC Appointments

Several former staffer names surfacing
|
As President-elect Barack Obama busies himself with staff appointments, broadcasters are buzzing about names being tossed around for his choice for FCC chairman. Among them are Blair Levin and Julius Genachowski, former advisers to one-time FCC chairman Reed Hundt, who is serving as Obama's senior transition team adviser. Also heard: former FCC staffers Scott Blake Harris, Donald Gips and Larry Strickling.

Gehron, Cantillo Exit Harpo
|
A surprise in the Windy City as GM John Gehron and PD Laurie Cantillo exit their positions at Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Radio. Gehron is an industry veteran with a storied career that includes working as regional VP and market manager of Clear Channel/Chicago, co-COO of American Radio Systems and as senior VP for CBS Radio.

Nielsen To Measure Huntsville Twice A Year
|
The Nielsen Company will conduct two surveys a year in Huntsville, Ala., in its deal with Cumulus and Clear Channel, announced earlier this week. Nielsen spokesman Gary Holmes says that will be the only market where two surveys a year will be conducted.

Ammons Returns To Star 94
|
J.R. Ammons (pictured) is your new PD at Lincoln Financial CHR/top 40 WSTR (Star 94)/Atlanta, returning to the station where he spent 11 years as APD/MD/promotions director. He starts on Dec. 15 and plugs the hole made when Dan Bowen departed in August. Ammons comes from the PD chair at Cox top 40 WAPE/Jacksonville, where he's been since May 2007, and he also spent a little under a year programming Wilks CHR/top 40 KMXV (Mix 93.3)/Kansas City after leaving Star in 2006.
